Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Woodford Carpet Cleaners in relation to our operations and supply chains. We are committed to conducting our business ethically and responsibly, and we oppose all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, servitude, and child labour. This statement sets out the steps we take, and will continue to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains.

Our Business and Supply Chains

Woodford Carpet Cleaners provides carpet, upholstery, and related cleaning services to residential and commercial customers. Our business relies on a range of suppliers and contractors, including providers of cleaning products and chemicals, equipment manufacturers, vehicle and transport services, uniform and workwear suppliers, and facilities and administrative services. We recognise that risks can exist at multiple levels of these supply chains, particularly where goods or components are sourced from higher risk regions or sectors.

Zero-Tolerance Approach to Modern Slavery

We operate a clear zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking. We will not knowingly work with any organisation that fails to uphold basic human rights or that is involved in, or complicit with, any form of modern slavery. Our expectations are communicated to employees, contractors, and suppliers, and we make it clear that any breach of this policy may result in the termination of employment or business relationships, as well as potential reporting to the relevant authorities.

Policies and Governance

Our commitment to preventing modern slavery is reinforced through internal policies addressing ethical conduct, equality, health and safety, and recruitment. We require that recruitment into our business is conducted through reputable channels and that workers are engaged on fair terms, with clear contracts, lawful wages, and appropriate working hours. We do not charge recruitment fees, and we do not tolerate the retention of identity documents or any practice that might restrict a worker’s freedom of movement or choice of employment.

Supplier Standards and Audits

We expect all suppliers to adhere to legal and ethical labour standards. Suppliers must ensure that their workers are employed freely, paid fairly, and treated with dignity and respect. As part of our risk-based approach, we conduct periodic checks and audits of key suppliers. These may include requesting evidence of labour practices, compliance with local labour laws, confirmation of age verification processes, and details of any subcontracting arrangements. Where necessary, we may carry out on-site visits or request independent audit reports to verify compliance.

If suppliers are unable or unwilling to meet our standards, we will seek to work with them to improve their practices within clear timeframes. Where improvement is not possible or is not made, we will review and may ultimately discontinue the relationship.

Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing

We encourage all employees, contractors, and other stakeholders to report any concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices. Concerns can be raised through line managers or senior management, and we promote a culture in which individuals feel safe speaking up in good faith without fear of retaliation. All reports of suspected modern slavery will be treated seriously, handled sensitively, and investigated promptly. Where appropriate, we may escalate concerns to external authorities or specialist organisations.

Training and Awareness

We recognise that awareness is essential to identifying and preventing modern slavery. We provide appropriate information and guidance to managers and staff so they can understand the signs of exploitation and know how to respond to concerns. We will continue to enhance our training materials as our understanding of risks develops and as best practice guidance evolves.

Monitoring, Review, and Continuous Improvement

We are committed to reviewing and improving our approach on an ongoing basis. This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually by our senior management team to ensure it remains accurate, effective, and aligned with legal requirements and best practice. As part of this review, we assess any incidents reported, outcomes of supplier audits, and developments in relevant legislation and guidance. We use these findings to strengthen our controls, refine our supplier due diligence, and update staff training.

This Statement reflects Woodford Carpet Cleaners’ dedication to combating modern slavery and promoting respect for human rights throughout our business and supply chains. It has been approved by senior management and will be updated each year to reflect our continuing efforts.
